International Women’s Day 2022 | #BreakTheBias against disability
International Women’s Day 2022
What is international Women’s Day (IWD)?
International Women's Day (IWD), which is observed on March 8th every year, is one of the most important days of the year for celebrating women's achievements and raising awareness about women's equality worldwide.
It serves as a focal point for the women's rights movement, drawing attention to topics such as gender equality, reproductive rights, as well as violence and abuse against women and girls.
The hashtag #BreakTheBias is the theme for this year. This serves as a vital reminder that bias, whether intentional or unconscious, makes it difficult for women to advance in their careers. It is not enough to recognise that bias exists; action must be taken to level the playing field for everybody.
How we champion Women’s Rights?
We are dedicated to enhancing the lives of individuals with disabilities in some of the world's most impoverished communities. Our work focuses on ensuring more positive futures for disadvantaged women and girls, as well as women and girls with disabilities.
Self-Help Groups (SHGs).
Projects that empower women and girls have been a part of our history for quite some time. One of these programmes is in Bangladesh, where CBM assists partners in advocating for the rights of individuals with disabilities. People with disabilities have earned the confidence and expertise to become change agents, advocating for their rights, through working with and strengthening Self-Help Groups (SHGs). SHGs must have at least 40% female members, and women-only groups are also formed. Women with disabilities who join SHGs have the opportunity to learn about leadership and disability rights.
How can you help support women?
Please help reject discrimination, break inequality, and tear down stereotypes by celebrating International Women’s Day, and the 2022 theme: #BreakTheBias. Consider a world in which everyone is treated equally. A world without prejudice, stereotypes, or discrimination. Diversity, equity, and inclusion in a world that is truly global. A world where diversity is embraced and cherished as a positive quality. With each other, we can create a more equal world for women.
Launched today, the Photovoice study shows us much remains to be done to ensure the full inclusion of women with disabilities in Nepali social, economic and political life. To advance their rights, the study calls for collective action to mainstream the concerns of women with disabilities while also targeting their specific needs.
