Babli’s Story
Did you know? If you give €250 or more to CBM in a calendar year, your donation could be worth 45% more.
Through the Revenue Commissioners Tax Efficient Giving Scheme, we could claim at least €112 if you fill out a tax relief form.
During our time in lockdown this year, we all came to appreciate schools more than ever.
For Babli, however, having cerebral palsy in a poverty-stricken village in India meant school wasn’t an option.
The reality is that countless children born into poverty with a disability will be held back from experiencing the full life others do. More than that, they won’t even set foot inside a school.
It’s why his mother Urmila fought so hard to get Babli the care he needed, taking him to several hospitals. But the doctors couldn’t help. With each day, she became more and more disillusioned.
One of our incredible CBM funded partners in India, the Vikalp Foundation, visited Babli’s village. They found Babli while looking for people with disabilities who needed support. Finally – the impossible happened – at the age of nine Babli was enrolled in school!
In remote villages in India, like Babli’s, it is heartbreaking how many children have no hope of receiving an education because they have a disability.
Without the help of someone like you who cares, there’s no hope of a brighter future for them. The need is urgent – because the longer they go without schooling, the further behind they can fall.
Babli is still in first grade, as learning does not come easy to him. But he is gaining knowledge every day – and is no longer isolated. He gets to meet and play with other children.
At school Babli is given lunch too – a national programme to protect children from hunger. This is an enormous advantage to a child like Babli. And to parents, like Urmila, who can struggle to feed their children.
