Who We Are

Christian Blind Mission (CBM) is the leading international development organisation working with and on behalf of people with disabilities in the poorest regions of the world.

Disability is inextricably linked to poverty. In close partnership with local communities, CBM is breaking the debilitating cycle of poverty, disability and exclusion in over 100 countries. Thanks to the vast knowledge and appropriate experience acquired by CBM over 100 years, we are able to work extensively in the treatment, prevention and rehabilitation of:

  • Physical Impairments
  • Visual Impairments
  • Mental Health
  • Hearing Impairments
  • Multiple Impairments

CBM effectively advocates the rights of people with disabilities, ensuring their equal presence and representation in society.

Our History

CBM Ireland is voluntary and autonomous member of CBM International, founded in 1908 by Ernst J.Christoffel.

Beginning with the creation of a home for people with physical and visual impairments in Turkey over 100 years ago, CBM has carefully developed into the leading organisation it is today, supporting over 1000 disability programmes in over 100 countries. In 2007 alone, CBM reached out to over 21 million people, improving their quality of life and supporting participation in their local communities.
