Education

Children with disabilities are least likely to have access to education in the developing world. This has an adverse effect on the child's immediate future as well as impacting on their adult life.

CBM addresses this problem through different forms of education. Where possible a blind or disabled child is integrated into mainstream education. If the child's needs prevent integration they are placed in a school with specialised staff and facilities. This ensures the child receives the best possible education.

In the Philippines, the Escola Especial Concordia para o Deficiente Auditivo, is a school for hearing-impaired children. It follows a philosophy of 'total communication' and also provides spiritual care and vocational training as part of its curriculum.

CBM also supports adult education for those who were unable to attend school such as projects like the Adult Training Centre for the Blind in India. This project provides services in all spheres to blind and other people with disabilities. It also has a deaf-blind unit and a low vision centre.
