cbm History

CBM´s work is based on the Christian principle of helping our fellow human beings and working with the poor.

Our founder, Ernest J Christoffel, founded CBM in 1908 and saw his commission in following Jesus as helping the weak and meeting the disadvantaged with compassion, openness and human warmth. Although our first missions were based on work with blind people we have grown over nearly a century and now work with people with all disabilities.

Today, CBM sees itself as integrated in God´s mission to the world. Beyond being professional within the realm of our mandate, CBM is a mission with a spiritual responsibility: to assist the suffering and needy and establish signs of God´s love for all to see.

"You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house." - Matthew 5, 14-15

We now work in over a hundred countries through a thousand projects, reaching out to people of all creeds and none.
